Decks built for Auckland conditions
Auckland decks cop sun, salt air and months of winter rain. We build with H3.2+ treated framing, stainless or galvanised fixings, and proper ground clearance and ventilation so your deck doesn't rot from underneath — the most common failure we see on older decks.
Decking options we build
- Kwila decking — the Auckland classic. Rich colour, extremely durable, ages to silver-grey or keeps its colour with oiling.
- Premium pine decking — the budget-friendly workhorse. Great value, takes stain well, long life when treated and maintained.
- Composite decking — no oiling, no splinters, no fading. Higher upfront cost, near-zero maintenance.
- Extras — balustrades, privacy screens, built-in seating, steps, lighting and pergolas to finish the space properly.
Do I need council consent for a deck?
In most cases, decks under 1.5 metres off the ground don't need building consent — which covers most Auckland backyards. Higher decks and decks with balustrades have extra requirements. We tell you exactly what applies to your site at the quote stage, and we build everything to NZ Building Code either way.
What does a new deck cost in Auckland?
It depends on size, height, timber choice and site access, which is why we quote from a site visit rather than guessing over the phone. Every quote is fixed and itemised — materials, labour, the lot — so you can compare it fairly and there are no surprises at the end.
Deck FAQs
How long does a deck build take?
Most residential decks take 3–10 working days depending on size, height and weather. You get a timeline with your quote and updates if anything shifts.
Can you replace or repair an existing deck?
Yes. Sometimes the framing is sound and only the boards need replacing, which saves you money. We'll assess it honestly and quote both options where it makes sense.
Kwila or composite — which should I pick?
Kwila looks and feels like real timber and costs less upfront, but wants an oil every year or two. Composite costs more on day one and then asks nothing of you. We'll bring samples to the site visit.
